I keep losing the rear under braking into Turn 1 at Watkins Glen in the LMP2. What am I doing wrong?
Classic trail braking snap in the LMP2 — that car's rear is very sensitive to longitudinal load transfer. At Turn 1 at WGI, you want to start releasing the brake around the 3rd board and be fully off by the apex. If you're still at 40%+ brake at turn-in, the rear steps out as the downforce bleeds off. My iRating dropped 180 points in one race. Is my season over?
Not even close. iRating is a zero-sum ELO — you lost 180 because the field expected you to do better than you did (high SOF relative to your rating). One bad race in a high-SOF field hurts more. The fastest way to recover is winning or top-5 in a field slightly below your current iR. Three solid races will get that back. What class are you in?
